Club History

The Northeast Wisconsin Spaniel Club was formed in the summer of 1978 by Pat Fischer, Vance VanLaanen and Fred Neville. The first meeting and election of officers was held in October of 1978. The club's first officers were: President - Vance VanLaanen, Vice Pres. - Ralph Sheldon, Secretary - Janet (Bredael) Fischer, Treasurer - Fred Neville, Directors: Corky Jarstad and Randy Becker. Other persons present were Pat Fischer and Stan Wrobel (Randy and Stan did not joined the club at that time) Pat filled the vacant Director position.

Club Highlights -

  • First Wild Game Dinner was set up by Pat Fischer and Janet Bredael at the Subo Club on March 19, 1979
  • First Sanction Springer Spaniel Field Trial was May 16, 1981, at Wild Rose Farms, Wautoma WI
  • First Licensed Springer Spaniel Field Trial was November 6 & 7, 1982, at Wild Rose Farms - FT Chairperson: Fred Neville, FT Secretary: Janet Fischer, Gun Captain: PatFischer
  • First club member to earn an Amateur Field Trial Champion title was Corky Jarstad with AFC Baywinds Skeeter in 1982
  • First US Cocker Field Trial since the late 1950's was held on August 20, 1983 at South Chase Kennels near Green Bay, WI - FT Chairperson: Stan Wrobel, Co-Chair: Corky Jarstad, Secretary: Pat Fischer
  • First club member to earn a placement (2nd) in a National Amateur Field Trial Championship was O/H - Pat Fischer in 1988 with FC/AFC/CFC South Chase Brady, Breeder: Emmett Anderson
  • First club member to earn a Master Hunter title was Jeff Schwartz with dog named Lighting Fire Flint MH in 1991
  • First club member to earn a placement (2nd) in a National Field Trial Championship was Pat Fischer in 1992 with FC Sealion of Bricksclose, handled by Dean Brunn
  • First Sanction Hunt Test was held on September 7, 1996, at Fox Ridge Game Farm - Chairperson: Jeff Schwartz, HT Secretary: Joan Mitchell
  • First Licensed Hunt Test was held on September 12 & 13, 1997, at Fox Ridge Game Farm - Chairperson: Jeff Schwartz, HT Secretary: Joan Mitchell
  • First club member to win the National Amateur Field Trial Championship was O/H George Reichert in 1999 with NAFC Triple Ridges Best Bet - "Bessie"
  • Fourth place finish at the 2004 National Amateur Championship was awarded to Dave & Sharon Smith's Welshwood's Lady Allison - "Ally".
  • Mid-west Amateur high point award in 2004 went to Lynn Christen's FC/AFC/CFC Sir Jumping Jack Slack.
  • Third place finish at the 2005 Amateur National was awarded to Lynn Christen's FC/AFC/CFC Sir Jumping Jack Slack.
  • Mid-west Amateur high point award for 2005 went to Dave & Sharon Smith's AFC Bridgewater Charge of Dynamite.

Membership
NWSC

At present we have eighteen members in our club. The membership year shall run from January 1st to December 31st of each year. Dues shall be payable to the Club Secretary before January 1st.

Meetings - Most of our business is done by mail. Members are sent a news letter on a regular bases, we do try to meet at least once a year (summer and/or winter).

Training - Within our membership there is extensive experience in both Field Trial and Gun Dog training. If members so indicates, formal training sessions are set up for club members to train their dogs.

Field Trials & Hunt Tests - The club will try to conduct fun events for club members and their family or guests in which hunting and field trial dogs can enjoy the format. In the fall, we hold our AKC Licensed Field Trial and Hunt Tests. Members are asked to contribute their free time to insure the success of these events, to bring in at least one ad for the trial catalog and to help with the lunch wagon. There shall be NO intensive or abusive training of dogs on the grounds during any AKC function held by our club. We also ask that small children present at the trial or event be under parent supervision at all times. Blaze orange must be worn in the field.

Calendar

The club hosts an annual hunt test in August and a field trial each September. Both events are AKC sanctioned. The field trial is held at Whitelaw, Wisconsin.

Our 2008 judges for the Open All-Age and Amateur All-Age will be Bob Ryan from New York and Paul Haering from Ohio.

The Open begins promptly at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. The Amateur follows the first series of the Open with alternating series until completion. We will begin at 7:30 AM, also, on Sunday. The Puppy stakes will be begin no earlier than 9:00 AM on Sunday.
